COMBO: Mermaid + Advanced (2 days)

Service Description

The PADI Mermaid course delves deeper into knowledge and skill development for safe, efficient and elegant mermaiding. Your instructor Dianne will conduct levels 1 and 2 of the Knowledge Development Sessions and pool session covering the PADI outlined curriculum. The PADI Basic Mermaid certification is a prerequisite. The Theory explores mermaid diving culture and it's development, mermaid diving safety considerations, discussion of mermaid costumes and accessories available, how to prepare & don the mermaid equipment, entering the water safely, floating and moving in the mermaid equipment. The second theory session explores the relationship between depth & pressure, the relationship between pressure & gas volume, how water effects what you see & hear while mermaiding, equalisiation theory, what happens to your body when you hold your breath underwater, triggering the mammalian dive reflex, differences between mermaid apnea & freedive apnea, land drills, correct weighting & more. The Practical involves warm-up and stretch, gearing up, entry, buoyancy, dolphin kick surface swimming practice, safety skills & cramp release, mermaid dives, correct breathing techniques for before & after, duck dive, equalization, underwater dolphin kick, swimming without a mask, buddy procedures and equipment care. The second practical session also involves static apnea and dynamic apnea training, mermaid turning techniques and exhale descents, underwater handshake, , back & side dolphin kick, back glide, backward somersault and mermaid bubbles (rings, hearts & kisses). Before enrolling in this course, it is a prerequisite that the student is able to swim at least 50m without swim aids, and float comfortably at the surface for at least 5 mins, as well be at least 10 years old. The maximum depth for this course is 5m and at a maximum instructor to student ratio of 6:1 for adults and 4:1 for kids aged 10-12 years. After successfully completing this course you will be a PADI certified Mermaid.
