COMBO: Basic + Mermaid + Advanced

Service Description

This course is an extensive 2 day knowledge and skill development for safe, efficient and elegant mermaiding. Your instructor Dianne will conduct levels 1, 2 & 3 of the Knowledge Development Sessions, pool session 1 & 2, and Ocean session 1 & 2 covering the PADI outlined curriculum. The Theory explores mermaid diving safety, discussion of mermaid costumes and accessories available, moving in the mermaid equipment, the relationship between depth & pressure, the relationship between pressure & gas volume, how water effects what you see & hear while mermaiding, equalisiation theory, what happens to your body when you hold your breath underwater, triggering the mammalian dive reflex, differences between mermaid apnea & freedive apnea, land drills, correct weighting, environmental conditions that affect mermaiding, assessing conditions, open water mermaid diving considerations, techniques for rescuing unresponsive mermaid at surface. The Practical sessions involves a day out on the Great Barrier Reef (Fitzroy Island, Green Island or Reef Tour) where we expand on the practical covered in the pool, including correct breathing techniques before & after, duck dive, equalization, dolphin kick, swimming without a mask, buddy procedures, apnea training, mermaid turning techniques, mermaid bubbles, buddy protocils, LMC rescue techniques, Before enrolling in this course, it is a prerequisite that the student is able to swim at least 100m without swim aids, and float comfortably at the surface for at least 10 mins, as well be at least 12 years old. The maximum depth for this course is 10m and at a maximum instructor to student ratio of 4:1. After successfully completing this course you will be a PADI certified Advanced Mermaid.
